Glass bathroom doors – choosing Crittall-style doors that are bright and private
A glass bathroom door brings daylight into a room that often has no window. All it takes is a glass that hides what is inside.
In a bathroom without a window, a glass door is the only source of daylight. A solid door leaves it in the dark, while Crittall-style steel-and-glass doors let in the light from the hallway or the bedroom. So the question “a bathroom door with glass or without?” comes down to one thing: which glass keeps the room bright but private.
Which glass for a bathroom door?
- Frosted and satin – hide the most. You cannot see through them, but the light still comes in.
- Reeded and smoked – only an outline is visible. A good choice for an en suite.
- Clear – only where the bathroom is a private part of the bedroom and nobody else uses it.
We always use safety glass – toughened or laminated, at least 5 mm thick.
Hinged or sliding?
Hinged doors – one leaf on hinges, with a frame. The simplest option and the one that closes the opening best. The frame has a seal, so the leaf sits tight against it.
Sliding doors – they slide along the wall and take no space in a small bathroom or a narrow hallway. They work well between a bedroom and an en suite. They lock from the inside too – we fit sliding doors with a hook lock.
Narrow double doors – two narrow leaves need less space to open than one wide door.
Moisture, locks and ventilation
Moisture – powder-coated steel copes well with bathroom moisture. The structure needs no maintenance: wipe it with a damp cloth and clean the glass like any window.
Locks – hinged doors get a handle with an inside privacy lock, and sliding doors a hook lock.
Ventilation – a bathroom needs air coming in. Instead of undercutting the leaf, we usually leave a larger gap under the door to keep the ventilation working.
Frame colour
Matt black suits most bathrooms, but we powder-coat the steel in any RAL colour. The frame can match the taps and fittings or the walls.
How to order a glass bathroom door from the UK
- Measure the opening – width and height. A photo or a hand sketch is enough.
- Design the door in our 3D configurator or send us the dimensions.
- You receive a quote and, once it is accepted, a technical drawing for approval.
- We make the structure in our own workshop in Poznań, Poland, and ship it to the UK. Lead time is usually 5–6 weeks from design approval. The glass and locks are fitted before dispatch; handles, screws and seals are packed with the structure, ready for installation by your contractor.
The whole structure comes with a 3-year warranty.
Questions and answers
Is a glass bathroom door private enough?
Yes, if you choose frosted or satin glass – you cannot see through it, but the light still comes in. Reeded and smoked glass show an outline.
Can a sliding bathroom door be locked?
Yes. We fit sliding doors with a hook lock that locks from the inside.
Do steel-and-glass bathroom doors seal and block sound?
A closed door keeps in most of the steam and smells, but it is not an acoustic barrier.
How much does a glass bathroom door cost?
There is no “from” price list – the price depends on the dimensions, the type of structure, the divisions, the glass and the fittings. You receive a specific figure in the quote for your project.
