Questions and answers

METAL LAB has been designing steel structures since 2016 and has been manufacturing loft doors and partitions for 10 years. Below we answer the questions we hear most often.

Are the doors and partitions made to measure?

Yes. We design and make every structure for a specific opening and interior — from a single door to large glazed walls with fixed panels, fanlights, arches and slopes.

How does an order work, step by step?

You start with an enquiry — through the configurator or by e-mail with the dimensions, a photo or a sketch of the opening. We prepare a quote and, once you accept it, the design: a technical drawing with dimensions and a visualisation for approval. After your approval the structure goes into production, and at the end we arrange installation or delivery.

How long does it take?

Usually 5–6 weeks from design approval; the exact date depends on the current production schedule and is confirmed with the quote.

What do you need for a quote?

The opening dimensions (width and height), the type of structure, the colour and the type of glass. A photo or a hand-drawn sketch is enough — we will settle the rest in conversation. We prepare quotes by e-mail or from the configurator.

How much do loft doors cost?

There is no minimum price or “from” price list — the price depends on the dimensions, the type of structure, the divisions, the glass and the fittings. You will receive a specific figure in the quote for your project.

What are the structures made of?

Closed steel profiles (most often 40×20, 50×20 and 15×15 mm, 1.5–2 mm wall, DC01 steel) and frame profiles selected for the project. The structure is fully welded and powder-coated in our own paint shop.

What glass do you use?

Always safety glass — toughened or laminated, from 5 mm upwards depending on the type. The most popular kinds (clear, fluted, satin, smoked, mirrors, lacquered glass and more) are shown on our Glass page; if you need another glass available on the market, we will source it.

Which colours?

We powder-coat in any RAL colour; the most popular are matt black and matt white. The colour is matched to the project.

Are there size limits?

No. Very large structures are split into smaller elements that we join on site.

Can the doors be fitted into an existing opening during a renovation?

Yes — we design the structure for the existing opening. It is best to contact us before the walls and floors are finished, so we can agree how the frame will be set.

Do you measure and install?

Yes — with our own team in the Wielkopolska region of Poland. In other regions, measuring and installation are handled by our distributors, who take over the order.

Can I order the doors without installation?

Yes. We prepare the structure for self-installation or for your contractor; before dispatch we fit the glass and locks, and pack the handles, screws and gaskets together with the structure.

Do you ship outside Poland?

Yes, to any country — we regularly deliver orders to the United Kingdom and the USA, among others. Structures are protected for transport and shipped with trusted carriers.

What is the warranty?

3 years on the whole structure. The welded steel frame is maintenance-free — it needs no adjustment or servicing.

How do I look after loft doors?

They need no maintenance. Powder-coated steel only needs wiping with a damp cloth, and the glass is cleaned like any other glass.

Where can I see the doors in person?

In the showroom of our distributor Harmony Living: Galeria Arkada, ul. Obornicka 229, unit 108 (1st floor), Poznań, Poland.

Where do you manufacture?

In our own workshop in Poznań, Poland, at ul. Strzyżowska 41 — laser cutting, welding, grinding and powder coating, with dimensions and operation checked before dispatch.

Do you work with architects and businesses?

Yes. Architects and designers receive technical drawings (DWG/PDF), colour and glass samples and support with the design. Distributors and fit-out companies receive partner terms and may sell our structures under their own brand.
